How we rate tennis players

Elo rating computed from match results (men and women separately, overall and per surface); lists players with a match in the last 12 months and at least 20 rated matches.

Every ATP, WTA, Challenger and WTA 125 singles match moves both players' Elo: beating a stronger player earns more than beating a weaker one.
Surface ratings use matches on that surface only; our tips blend them half and half with the overall Elo.
Men and women are rated in separate pools. The table lists the 500 best men and 300 best women among players active in the last 12 months with at least 20 such matches behind them.
Elo measures playing strength, not points: the official ATP and WTA rankings add up tournament points over 52 weeks.
