Skrill and Neteller for betting: deposits, payouts, bonuses and the rules by country

Published 10 min read

Skrill and Neteller work as a deposit method at many licensed betting sites, and neither wallet charges a fee on the deposit itself: the bettor pays only for topping up the wallet and for any currency conversion, according to both fee pages checked on 27 October 2026. Withdrawals are where the differences start, because some sites pay only to a bank account. This guide is for bettors who fund betting accounts from an e-wallet: deposits, costs, payouts, welcome offers and the rules in the UK, Germany and Australia. It covers both wallets outside the US and names no betting operators.

Key takeaways

  • Skrill and Neteller charge nothing on a deposit at a betting site, so the bettor pays only the top-up (Skrill 0.00% by bank transfer, Neteller 0–1% from a local bank) and any currency conversion.
  • A wallet in a different currency from the betting account costs 4.49% per conversion at Skrill and up to 3.99% at Neteller, €22.45 or up to €19.95 on a €500 deposit.
  • In Great Britain, licence condition 6.1.2 has banned credit card payments for gambling since 14 April 2020, including credit card money passed through an e-wallet.
  • Germany's 2021 State Treaty on Gambling requires a payment account in the player's name and caps deposits at €1,000 a month across all providers, and Australia has banned credit-funded digital wallets for online wagering since 11 June 2024.

How does a Skrill or Neteller deposit at a betting site work?

A Skrill or Neteller deposit at a betting site is a payment from the wallet to the site's cashier: you pick the wallet, log in and confirm (Skrill and Neteller help pages checked on 27 October 2026).

  1. Open the betting site's cashier, choose Skrill or Neteller and enter the amount.
  2. Log in to the wallet in the window that opens. Neteller then lets you pay from the balance, a card or a local instant deposit option (Neteller help).
  3. Confirm and complete any security check, such as a code, a PIN or a push notification. Neteller lets you mark the site as a trusted recipient to skip the check next time.

Skrill has a shortcut for repeat deposits: with Skrill 1-Tap "you pay as soon as you click without entering any additional info", and you review or cancel 1-Tap payments under Settings, Subscriptions and 1-Tap payments (Skrill, how to pay, checked on 27 October 2026).

From our own use: the people behind SharkBetz have paid bookmakers with Skrill for years, for surebets and value bets, where a price can be gone in minutes. A Skrill deposit showed in the betting account the moment we confirmed it, and withdrawals from Skrill to a bank arrived within the time Skrill gives, like any standard bank transfer.

The wallet and the betting account must be in the same name. A deposit from someone else's wallet is a common route to a blocked betting account, and in Germany it falls foul of the law described below. Both wallets belong to Paysafe Group: UK accounts are held with Skrill Limited (FCA FRN 900001) or Paysafe Financial Services Limited (FCA FRN 900015), EEA accounts with Paysafe Payment Solutions Limited, supervised by the Central Bank of Ireland.

What does a betting deposit with Skrill or Neteller cost?

A deposit at a betting site carries no wallet fee at Skrill or Neteller, so a €100 deposit costs €0 at Skrill if the wallet was topped up by bank transfer, and up to €1 at Neteller from a local bank (fee pages checked on 27 October 2026). The betting site, as the merchant, pays the wallet for accepting the payment.

Skrill's fee page also warns that a card issuer may charge a "cash advance" fee on gambling-related card top-ups, which Skrill neither controls nor receives.

Example: top up €100 by bank transfer, deposit it in euros, and later withdraw €250 of winnings from the wallet to your bank. The round trip costs €4.38 at Skrill (the 1.75% withdrawal) and the same at Neteller plus up to €1 for the top-up. Every line is explained in Skrill fees explained and Neteller fees explained.

Can you withdraw winnings to Skrill or Neteller?

Often yes: many licensed betting sites pay winnings back to the method you deposited with, so a Skrill deposit is paid out to Skrill, but some sites and some whole markets pay only to a bank account in your name. Check the site's withdrawal page before the first deposit.

When winnings do land in the wallet, moving them to your bank costs 1.75% at both wallets, and Skrill says a bank withdrawal "may take 1 day up to 5 business days" (Skrill help, checked on 27 October 2026). Verify the wallet before you need the money, as described in Skrill and Neteller verification; times and costs are in Skrill and Neteller withdrawals.

Why do welcome offers exclude Skrill and Neteller deposits?

Betting sites decide which deposits qualify for their welcome offers, and many list e-wallets such as Skrill and Neteller among the methods that do not; their terms rarely give a reason, so the qualifying-deposit clause is the only place to check. An excluded wallet deposit still funds the account, it just does not unlock the offer.

Before the first deposit, read the offer's terms for:

  • the qualifying deposit: which payment methods count for the first deposit,
  • excluded methods: whether e-wallets, or Skrill and Neteller by name, are listed,
  • later deposits: whether a wallet deposit after the qualifying one affects the offer,
  • the withdrawal method: whether winnings from the offer must go back the same way.

The wallets' own promotions have excluded betting merchants too: Neteller's Invite Friends programme of 2026 excluded one named betting operator, and its Rewards promotion of December 2024 to January 2025 excluded 24 named merchants, betting operators among them (Neteller bonus and promo codes). Skrill's current Mission Deposit Bonus terms say that "there are no Excluded Merchants" at publication (clause 6.2, checked on 27 October 2026), as described in Skrill sign-up bonus. What are the e-wallet betting rules in the UK, Germany and Australia?

In Great Britain a licensed betting site may not accept a credit card payment for gambling, including one made through an e-wallet, since 14 April 2020; Germany requires a payment account in the player's name and caps deposits at €1,000 a month; Australia has banned credit-funded digital wallets for online wagering since 11 June 2024.

  • Great Britain. The Gambling Commission announced the ban on 14 January 2020 (announcement) and reminded operators in June 2020 that it covers e-wallets (CMS, 23 June 2020); the duty sits with the betting site.
  • Germany. The €1,000 is one limit across all licensed providers together; the licensing authority may allow a different amount in individual cases.
  • Australia. A wallet topped up from a debit card or a bank account is not on the list.

Whatever the market, only bet with operators licensed where you live, as our Skrill review stresses.

Does the wallet currency need to match the betting account?

The wallet currency does not have to match the betting account, but every deposit and payout between two currencies is converted, at 4.49% at Skrill and up to 3.99% at Neteller on a standard account (fee pages checked on 27 October 2026). A wallet in the same currency as your betting accounts avoids the charge.

FAQ

Can you use Skrill or Neteller for betting?

Yes, many licensed betting sites list Skrill and Neteller as deposit methods, but not all of them, and acceptance differs by country: check the cashier before you open a wallet for one site.

Does Skrill charge a fee on a betting deposit?

No, Skrill charges no fee on a deposit at a betting site, because the site pays the wallet as a merchant (Skrill's fee page, checked on 27 October 2026). You still pay for a card top-up (up to 1.25%) and 4.49% if the currencies differ.

Can you withdraw winnings to Skrill?

Often yes: many betting sites pay winnings back to the method you deposited with, so a Skrill deposit can be paid out to Skrill. Some sites and markets pay only to a bank account in your name, as all 16 bookmakers licensed in Poland do.

Why is Skrill or Neteller excluded from a betting bonus?

Many betting sites list e-wallets among the deposit methods that do not qualify for a welcome offer, and their terms rarely give a reason. Read the qualifying-deposit clause before the first deposit.

Can I fund Skrill or Neteller with a credit card for betting in the UK?

No: since 14 April 2020 licence condition 6.1.2 forbids Great Britain's licensed gambling operators to accept credit card payments, including those made through an e-wallet. Top up the wallet by debit card or bank transfer.

Can you use Skrill for betting in Germany?

Yes, at licensed German operators that list it, if the wallet is in your own name: § 6b(4) of the 2021 State Treaty on Gambling allows payments only from a payment account in the player's name, and deposits count toward the €1,000 monthly limit.
